North Sea Race..

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

…bit of prep still to be done.  Trying to solve water-tank problem – would make nice hot-tub/jacuzzi but not ideal for consumption!  Very pleased with hull finish after stripping down with Eco-Da System via Neil Baker. Hull now fully epoxied. Various tweaks and modifications given big improvements. New instruments much more helpful.

Looking forward to May 20th for the 100th Edition of the Houghton Cup – the oldest long distance yacht race in the UK.  This time will be a 127 mile overnight race around the North Sea. Heartbeat IV currently awaiting return to the water on 18th.  GRIB files suggesting not much wind in early hours of Friday – but start not until ~ 1600h.

First Race of the Season

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

Sunny and windy – up to about 35 knots from the NE from Mersea to Burnham. HB IV was launched on Friday 29th and was taken to Bradwell. Relaxed ~ 1000h start on Saturday with slightly under-strength and under-fit crew – Jason, Judy, Tim, Nic, Scotty, Helen, Jonno, Paul, Mike and Robbie. Multiple broaches for many boats, including Heartbeat and loss of halyard – quick recovery. Pleased to get line honours, 5th overall. Boatox ran aground and lost mast during recovery – sympathies to Richard and Kay. A great day out. Good turnout at Royal Burnham to see The Geek received the Ralph Herring Trophy.
